Answers

A1 - When does my access to USNH IT resources expire?

As a general rule, all departing students will retain access to IT resources until 30 days after the start of the next semester after they finish (this is called R+30). For example, students who graduate in May will have access until early October. Students who depart after fall semester (December) will have access until early February.

The following services and applications are included in this model: Email, OneDrive and other Microsoft Office 365 apps and services, myCourses (Canvas), Zoom, Qualtircs, VPN, secure wireless (eduroam), Student Information Systems (PSU Self-Service, UNH WebCat), the campus portals (myUSNH, myKSC, myPSU, myUNH), and access to on-campus Computer Clusters.

A2 - What happens to my campus email?

Important: Be sure to update the recovery email address on any other online services to your personal email instead of your campus email.  Once your campus email access expires, you will no longer be able to use it as a recovery email address for other services (such as Apple ID, social media accounts, streaming services, etc.).

Campus Email privileges for departing students is dependant upon the student's primary campus affiliation as follows:

At Keene State College: Departing or graduating students will retain access to their KSC Email privileges until 30 days after the start of the next semester after departure or graduation (R+30).

At Plymouth State University:  Graduating students (as determined by a final degree conferral) will be granted "Alumni status" and as a Plymouth State Alumnus will retain access to campus email, provided the accounts are in compliance with USNH Technology/Cybersecurity Policies. However, access to all other M365 resources (Word, Excel, OneDrive, etc.) is removed 30 days after the start of the next semester (R+30).

PSU Alumni accounts without an active and current password (refer to the USNH Password Policy) are considered abandoned and will be automatically deleted 120 days after the password expires.  Note: Once an account has been abandoned it cannot be restored.

PSU Students who leave institution prior to degree or program completion will retain their Email privileges until 30 days after the start of the next semester (R+30).

At University of New Hampshire:  Departing or graduating students will retain access to their UNH email provided the accounts are in compliance with USNH Technology/Cybersecurity Policies.  However, access to all other M365 resources (Word, Excel, OneDrive, etc.) is removed 30 days after the start of the next semester (R+30).

UNH Alumni and Prior Student (Pre 2023) accounts without an active and current password (refer to the USNH Password Policy) are considered abandoned and will be automatically deleted 120 days after the password expires.  Note: Once an account has been abandoned it cannot be restored.

UNH Students who leave institution prior to degree or program completion will retain their Email privileges until 30 days after the start of the next semester (R+30).

A3 - What happens to myCourses by Canvas?

As of December 2022, departing or graduating students will retain access to myCourses until 30 days after the start of the next semester after departure or graduation (R+30).  Students wishing to save their course material must access their myCourses courses before that date. Previous semester courses can be located in the All Courses link. Refer to this article from the Knowledge Base to learn how to locate myCourses previous courses: Canvas: Managing your Course List.

For more information, refer to Canvas (myCourses): What happens to my access when I leave the institution?

A4 - What happens to my free version of Microsoft Office 365?

Students will retain full access to the Microsoft Office 365 suite for 30 days after the start of the next semester once they depart the institution (R+30).  During this window, we recommend downloading and moving files into a personal Microsoft account . For example, students who graduate in May will have access until Early October. Students who depart after fall semester (December) will have access until early February.

A5 - What happens to my files and folders in OneDrive?

When student access to free Microsoft Office 365 expires (see previous question) the access to their campus OneDrive will expire as well.  Students should plan to move any files that they want to keep to a different, personal Microsoft365 OneDrive account BEFORE the free access expires. ET&S has no ability to restore access to these files, once the account expires.  For more information, refer to this article: OneDrive: Copying Personal Files/Folders before Leaving the University

A6 - Can I still get access to Adobe Creative Cloud?

Departing or graduating students will retain access to their access to the Adobe Suite in on-campus Computer Clusters until 30 days after the start of the next semester after departure or graduation (R+30).

Adobe's Student Asset Migration, allows graduating students to migrate their assets from their school-assigned Adobe Creative Cloud accounts to new Creative Cloud Free membership accounts.  Students will be able to ensure ongoing access to their Creative Cloud assets and web portfolios. The Creative Cloud Free membership includes trial versions of most of Adobe’s creative apps, and graduates can easily upgrade to get full versions of all the applications and services that were included in their school accounts.  To access asset migration, students should visit graduation.adobe.com. Faculty may leverage this template (Adobe Creative Cloud Template) created by Adobe to communicate the availability of asset migration to your students.

Adobe is offering graduating students a 40% discount on Creative Cloud individual licenses ($29.99/month) for the first year after graduation. Graduates will continue to have access to all the apps they had on campus, and can get this 40% discount by visiting Adobe Creative Cloud (40% Off for Students a Year After Graduation).

A9 - What happens to my access to academic software, such as SPSS, MATLAB or Qualtrics?

As a whole, student access to academic software will go away. But technically, it varies. The following scenarios apply:

  • For programs that require the checkout of a license from USNH servers like SPSS, ArcGIS, or Maple, they will work until the student's VPN access goes away (at R+30).
  • For other programs that have a local license file like SAS, JMP, and MATLAB, these applications will continue to work, but the student will not be able to get a new license file once the current one expires.
  • Qualtrics privileges will expire 30 days after the start of the next semester after departure or graduation (R+30).

Back to Questions

A10 - I created a Qualtrics survey and need to reassign ownership to someone else who is taking over my project. Is this possible?

Yes. Refer to this USNH IT Knowledge Base article - Qualtrics: Reassigning Ownership of a Survey. This reassignment needs to be completed before R+30.
