UNH, Canvas: Emailing students in a concluded Canvas course

Summary

This article will provide instruction on how to use Webcat to retrieve emails of students from a Canvas course that has already concluded.

 

How-To

Task: Using Webcat to retrieve emails of students from a Canvas course that has already concluded.

Courses on Canvas conclude four weeks after the end of the semester. At that time, courses are put into a read-only state, and you can no longer use the email function within Canvas to email the students in that course. However, you can access student emails via Webcat.

Instructions

Step 1 - Log into Webcat

Step 2 - Click on Faculty Service

Step 3 - Click on Printable Class Roster

Step 4 - Locate the course and follow the instructions on how to access an Excel file with the student names and email.

Note: This email list is generated using students' preferred email address that they've listed on Webcat. This email address may be different than their student email address.  There is currently no way to contact students of a concluded course through their UNH email address.

 

Outcome

You will be able to email students from a concluded Canvas course.
