How-To

Task: The following steps will walk a user through troubleshooting with Kaltura if the recording does not work on their Mac.

Instructions

Recent versions of Mac have been experiencing trouble communicating with Java, which is used to record your screen via Kaltura. If you are on a Mac and receiving a Failure to detect Java message, please read the following:

  1. Download and install the following Mac update: Java for OS X
    • Once the update has been installed, screen recording in Firefox should immediately work.
  2. If you are using the Safari browser, you must do the following:
    1. Open the Safari browser and visit the Kaltura Media Library page at your institution.
    2. Select the Record screen button.
    3. Safari will ask if you want to ...trust the www.XXXXXXXXX.edu website to use the Java plugin. Select Trust.
    4. In the Safari menu bar at the top, select Preferences.
    5. Click on the Security tab and select the Manage Website Settings button listed at the bottom.
    6. On the left side of this screen, select the Java option.
    7. In that dropdown menu, change the Allow choice to Run in Unsafe Mode.
    8. Select the Trust option to confirm and return to the Kaltura Media Library.
    9. Now select Record screen to begin the recording process.

Outcome

Users should be able to troubleshoot if Kaltura recording is not working on their Mac computer.
