Summary
This article explains how to be sure that hyperlinks always display a clean URL when using both UTM codes and "TargetX Track Click-throughs in Message" at the same time. Audience: KSC, CPS, UNH, and USNH users of Salesforce Recruit
Content
It is important to make sure that the hyperlink protocol is always displaying a clean URL with a recognized prefix (http://, https://, etc.) when using UTM codes and the TargetX Track Click-throughs in Message functionality in tandem.
TargetX Tracking Click-Throughs
When selecting “Track Click-throughs in Message” during the creation of a campaign, the format for the hyperlink will display differently in the email message. This adds a “https://suite.targetx.com" prefix to the hyperlink. This is what allows the interaction statistics to populate back in Salesforce.

UTM Codes
Updating the hyperlink URL to include a UTM code will default the protocol to “<other>”. This will break the link used in click-through tracking in campaigns. Here’s an example below:
The protocol must be "https://".
Outlook SafeLink
When extracting links from UNH Outlook emails, it is best practice to physically copy and paste the URL directly from an internet browser into the TargetX Email template hyperlink fields.
SafeLink masks the original URL within a hyperlink. The full hyperlink will contain personal information of the original recipient. Here’s an example below that shows the TargetX Click-Through tracking is on, the hyperlink was for https://unh.edu, and the original recipient was for Amy Maltagliati:
https://nam12.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fapi.targetx.com%2Femail-interact%2Fredirect%3Fid%3DMTEwMDAwOTUwIDcwMTBVMDAwMDAwRjAyTVFBUyBhMEowVTAwMDAwMkdpN2dVQUMgMDAzMFUwMDAwMHBSWE84UUFP%26link%3Dhttps%253A%2F%2Fwww.unh.edu%2F&data=02%7C01%7CAmy.Maltagliati%40unh.edu%7Cd1215ecaf8624d42181608d7f139d322%7Cd6241893512d46dc8d2bbe47e25f5666%7C0%7C0%7C637243102960197776&sdata=6XpcZ8RnE43Xcu4VRwEptM%2FwBSRpUouE5Q%2BNakZvHgI%3D&reserved=0
While the link will still work, it contains unnecessary information and is very long.
