OneDrive: Saving/Opening Files

Summary

This article provides instructions on how to open a file stored in OneDrive using an Office application and save a copy of a document created in an Office application to OneDrive.

 

How-To

Task: To access OneDrive through the browser.

Instructions

Step 1 - Sign in to https://portal.office.com, then select the app launcher   App Launcher  > OneDrive.

Step 2 - Pick a file or folder by selecting the circle in the upper corner of the item, and then select a command at the top of the page.

 

Outcome

You can now use OneDrive in your browser.

Task: To access OneDrive on your desktop

Note: If you use Windows 10, OneDrive may have already asked you to sign in to sync your files.

Instructions

Step 1 - In File Explorer, select: OneDrive – USNH

Step 2 - If OneDrive isn't setup, see:

Outcome

You can now use OneDrive on your desktop.

Task: To Upload files and folders to OneDrive with Microsoft Edge or Google Chrome.

Note: You can store over 300 types of files on OneDrive using Microsoft Edge or Google Chrome.

Instructions

Step 1 - Select Upload > Files or Upload > Folder.

Step 2 - Select the files or folder you want to upload.

Step 3 - Select Open or Select Folder.

 

Outcome

Your files have been uploaded to your OneDrive.

Task: To Upload files and folders to OneDrive with other browsers.

Instructions

Step 1 - Select Upload, select the files you want to upload, and select Open.

Step 2 - If you don't see Upload > Folder, create a folder, and then upload the files to that folder.

Your files have been uploaded to your OneDrive.

Task: To Save and open files in your Office Applications.

Instructions

Step 1 - Select File > Save As (or Save a Copy)​​​​ > OneDrive - USNH to save a work file to your USNH OneDrive.

Step 2 - Save personal files to OneDrive - Personal, if you have one.

Step 3 - Select File > Open and then select OneDrive, to open a file saved to OneDrive.

Note: Requires Microsoft 365, Office 2019, or Office 2016.

Outcome

Your files have been saved and are ready to use from any device where you can sign into your USNH account.
