Creating a Data Extract with Tableau Desktop using the OneDrive and SharePoint Online Connector

This article has instructions on how to create a data extract with Tableau Desktop using the OneDrive and SharePoint Online connector. Starting with version 2022.3, Tableau Desktop users can access flat files stored in SharePoint or OneDrive. The OneDrive and SharePoint Online connector allows Developers to connect to departmental files or scheduled WebI Reports, create an extract, and set up a reoccurring refresh schedule for that data source. To publish a Tableau Data Extract connected to a source file stored in SharePoint or OneDrive, start by following the multi-step process outlined below.

How-To

Task: To connect to SharePoint or OneDrive and then create and publish your data extract to the Tableau Server from the Tableau Desktop.
 

Instructions

Step 1 - Make the connection to SharePoint or OneDrive and set up the data source from Tableau Desktop. Follow the instructions in Connecting Tableau Desktop to a file saved in OneDrive or SharePoint.

Step 2 - Create an extract from Tableau Desktop. Follow the instructions in Creating a Data Extract with Tableau Desktop.

Step 3 – Add your OneDrive/ SharePoint Credentials to Tableau Server. Follow the instructions in Adding embedded credentials for OneDrive SharePoint on Tableau Server.

Step 4 - Publish your extract to the UNH Tableau Server from Tableau Desktop and set a refresh schedule. Follow the instructions in Publishing a Tableau data source.
